Best Places in the Finger Lakes for a Picnic

In the romantic setting of the Finger Lakes, a picnic can be just what is needed during a day of wine tasting or site seeing.  A picnic is a nice way to break up the day and get in touch with the region's beauty!
She-qua-ga Falls – It is a delightful surprise to drive down Main Street in the village of Montour Falls and have the She-qua-ga Falls come into view. The falls are 165 feet high and are illuminated at night. There is a tiny park with a table or two at the base of the falls, allowing for a picnic almost within arm's reach of the thundering water. Montour Falls is located South of Seneca Lake.
Montezuma Wetlands Complex - If you enjoy nature and birds, Montezuma Wetlands Complex is a great place for a picnic. The tables are near the edge of the big pond on a lawn under beautiful trees, with the observation platform and rest rooms close by. There are only 2 or 3 tables so it's private and a great place to enjoy the outdoors only 5 miles East of Seneca Falls off Rt. 5&20.
Watkins Glen State Park –You will find a wonderful site for a family or group picnic at Watkins Glen State Park. The site has a beautiful, large enclosed pavilion, much nicer than your typical picnic shelter, located in a lovely clearing in the woods. To get there, you take route 329 out of Watkins Glen to the intersection of Meads Hill Road, bear to your right, down the hill, and cross the landmark Stone Bridge. The entrance to the pavilion will be a left turn after crossing the Stone Bridge. Just as all picnic facilities in the state park, one would have to reserve the pavilion by contacting the New York State park authorities.
Lodi Point State Park - When the weather is right, it is hard to beat a picnic by the lake. Lodi Point State Park is a little park that most people aren't aware of, right on the East side of Seneca Lake. The park has plenty of picnic tables and the point has a nice beach. The location on the point means there is water to be seen. It's a cute little park, just off the wine trail so it's a nice spot to stop for a picnic (then get back to the wine!).

Tips for Using Vinegar at Home

Did you know that vinegar has uses that extend beyond food? Vinegar is an inexpensive and environmentally friendly cleaning product. You can visit online for a complete list of ideas and tips for using vinegar around the house. The following are just a few of our favorite tips and ideas from that website that we would like to pass along.

Gardens

  • Preserve fresh cut flowers by adding a tablespoon of vinegar and a teaspoon of sugar to a quart of vase water.
  • Sanitize outdoor furniture by wiping the furniture down with a vinegar soaked cloth.
  • Wash fresh vegetables with a mixture of 1 tablespoon of white distilled vinegar in 1½ quarts of water.

Cleaning

  • To make your drinking glasses and silverware spot free, add a ½ cup of white vinegar into the dishwasher before you start the wash.
  • To shine chrome sink fixtures that have a lime buildup, use a paste made of 2 tablespoons salt and 1 teaspoon white distilled vinegar.
  • Clean and deodorize a drain by pouring in 1 cup baking soda, then 1 cup of  hot white distilled vinegar. Let this sit for 5 minutes or so, and then run hot water down the drain.
  • Deodorize and clean the garbage disposal with white distilled vinegar ice cubes. Make them by freezing full-strength white distilled vinegar in an ice cube tray. Run several cubes down the disposal while flushing with cold water.
  • Clean the microwave by mixing ½ cup white distilled vinegar and ½ cup water in a microwave-safe bowl. Bring it to a rolling boil inside the microwave. Baked-on food will be loosened, and odors will disappear. Wipe clean.
  • Remove soap buildup and odors from the dishwasher by pouring a cup of white distilled vinegar inside the empty machine and running it through a whole cycle. Do monthly.
  •  Get rid of fruit flies by setting out a small dish of undiluted white distilled vinegar.
  •  To clean and disinfect baby toys add a good-sized splash of white distilled vinegar to soapy water.
Laundry
  • Prevent lint from clinging to clothes by adding 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar to the wash cycle.
  • To remove soap residue that makes black clothes look dull use white distilled vinegar in your final rinse.
  • Forgot that you left wet laundry in the machine and it now smells moldy? Pour a few cups of white distilled vinegar in the machine and wash the clothes in hot water. Then run a normal cycle with detergent.
  • Eliminate manufacturing chemicals from new clothes by adding 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar to the water.
  • Bring out bright colors by adding 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar to the rinse cycle

We hope you make great use of these tips!  Visit WoodsEdge Luxury Apartment Homes on Facebook for more tips and information!
