Before the Summer is Over, Visit Taughannock State Park

That cool, crisp, fall air is right around the corner. As the last few weeks of warm sunny days pass by you may want to consider getting out and enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. There are some truly beautiful places to visit in our little corner of the state. I recently had the pleasure of spending the day at Taughannock State Park in the Ulysses Township near Trumansburg, NY. This park has it all. You will find a marina, swimming area, a fantastic playground and many places to stretch out a blanket and have a picnic. Of course, the main attraction is the stunning Taughannock Falls with its incredible 215 foot drop. To reach the falls you follow a path that winds along the river below the falls. The path itself is spectacular with many small cataracts leading up to the main attraction. As you get closer you start to hear the faint rumble of the water tumbling over the edge of the cliff. When you round the final corner on the path you realize you just stepped into a natural amphitheatre formed from the cliff walls high above your head. You cross over a wooden bridge. If you look around you will see massive rocks all around you that have taken a journey over the precipice. The trail ends at a lookout where you feel the mist on your skin, you hear the roar of the fast moving water and you get an amazing view of Taughannock Falls.
